Koh Samui NightclubsWhen it comes to nightlife, Koh Samui has something for everyone. From Bangkok-style go-go bars to chic up-market dance and dining clubs, from chill-out beach bars to all-night rave parties on the beach. If this all doesn't satisfy you, then, as they say, if you're tired of Koh Samui you're tired of life! Naturally, most of Koh Samui's nightclub action is centred on Chaweng, with Lamai coming second. But now there's a sprinkling of club like venues just a little further away, too in areas like Bo Phut. Chaweng NightclubsThere are two lively areas of Chaweng around 'Chaweng's Soi Green Mango' and the 'Chaweng Soi Reggae'. Soi Green Mango ChawengThe Soi Green Mango is U-shaped and returns back to Chaweng Beach Road alongside the Solo Bar, which is a two-floor bar known for staying open until around 5:00 am, and popular with Thai locals and visitors alike. Right at the entrance to the Green Mango is Mario's Austin Powers Dance Bar, which as actually an open area outside and filled with thrashing bodies – run this gauntlet to get into the Green Mango! The Green Mango Clubis one of Koh Samui's largest nightclubs. With its tree house design comes a large open air space featuring multiple bars and it has the privilege of having a whole party street named after it. It has big screens projectors, pool tables, a range of drink specials and it's two spacious dance floors will keep you entertained all night long. The Sweet Soul Clubis the sister of The Green Mango Club and is a popular open-sided club. Dancing the night away to the best in house, R&B and Hip on dance the floor usually overflows onto the street for that out door party atmosphere. Mint Baris more classy, on two floors, air-conditioned and chilled-out, and regularly features visiting international DJs. Q Baris much more of an up-market venue in Chaweng, but a little further away from the centre. It is a very chic and trendy two-floor club and restaurant, perched up on the hill by the lake, and with fabulous views from its open dining terrace over the town below. The Red Snapperis actually an up-market restaurant, but also features a music lounge with a live Colombian band that plays on until 1:00 am. Not a place for the under 30s! Soi Reggae ChawengSoi Reggae is located on the peninsular of the Chaweng Lake. It boasts a long stretch of beer bars where you can play pool, watch sport and chat with the friendly Thai girls who work there. The Reggae Pubclaims to be Koh Samui's oldest nightclub, it is also one of Koh Samui's largest clubs. The unique traditional thai wooden building & it's modern classical decoration gives this place a special atmosphere. The club consists of a large dance floor, pool table area live sports via big screen tv's and pub grub. The Reggae Pub band performs live reggae and dance music until about 11pm. And then the resident DJ keeps the party going until the early hours with the latest and greatest dance tracks. Lamai NightclubsThe hub of Lamai's nightlife is in the region around McDonald's, where you'll find a nest of beer-bars, the “Round Bars”, surrounding the open Thai-boxing ring. A little further away are several chill style clubs. Fusion Clubmainly plays House, Funk, and Acid Jazz music. The DJ will keep the music pumping in this dimly lit club and the small dance floor comfortably overflows with partiers dancing in all areas. Koh Samui Beach PartiesOf note to the hardcore party animals, Samui hosts regular all night beach parties that are modelled along the lines of the famous Full Moon Party over in Koh Phangan. These seem to come and go, as they are frowned upon by by nearby local business and residents. The scene here has two branches, the most enterprising being connected to Chaweng's beachside Arc Bar, a late night chill-out spot in its own right. Their regular Half Moon Parties have now been organised to happen away from Koh Samui, a short trip over to the mainland, but it will cost you! For around 1,800 Baht, revellers can be collected from their hotel, transferred by coach and ferry to mainland Surat Thani, then whisked off to a secluded beach for an all inclusive night of fun and frolics. A seafood barbecue and all you can drink alcohol are included in the price plus a night of house and techno courtesy of local and international DJs. The price also includes the return trip. For an extra fee, there's onsite bungalows available. For more info visit Travel Solutions, next to the Ark Bar. The Black Moon Party and the Escape House PartyChaweng boasts the largest outdoor party venue in Southeast Asia. Chaweng Lake View is capable of accommodating over 4,000 party animals and is located just below the Q Bar. Chaweng Lake View, is home to the Black Moon Parties and the Escape House Parties, there are three events scheduled per month with international DJs from all over the world. The Black Moon Party always takes place on the absence of the moon in a calendar month and the Escape House Parties fall on the half moon dates. Closing time on Koh SamuiIt's worth mentioning that all the Thai laws changed a few years ago and now the night is officially due to end before it's really begun. Generally, bars and clubs should close at 2:00 am. But, one way and another, you'll come across those which are somehow able to remain open until 3:00 am and later. The less-prominent venues often simply turn out their lights and lower the volume, in the hope that cruising police turn a blind eye. And there are a few smaller spots which manage to survive until dawn. But, as a rule, it's chucking-out time no later than 3:00 am. |
