Koh Samui Weather

Koh Samui climate information

As a norm, the temperature on Koh Samui hovers a few degrees on either side of 30. But what's more important is the overall blend of temperature, humidity and wind.

Two consecutive days at the same temperature but with different breeze and/or humidity will cause one day to feel baking and the other day only pleasantly warm! That is why on our temperature gauge in the left column we have included the 'real feel' factor.

Generally speaking, the weather on Koh Samui is fine and sunny nearly all of the time.

There is a rainy season in Thailand, although areas like Bangkok and Phuket see this at different times.

And, unlike the Indian Monsoon, the rainy season on Samui should really be called the 'showery season', with a few hours of rain being followed by broken cloud. It rarely rains non-stop for the whole day.

The 'rainy season' on Samui occurs during the months of late October through until the end of December and usually Christmas and the New Year are rain-free. Samui is at its hottest and driest around the period of Songkran (the Thai New Year) in April, and with variable conditions in-between. Samui has two 'high seasons', the main one being in late December through to March - bookings are definitely needed here! The second high season matches the European holidays in July and August, and the island is well-populated and busy.

January-February-March

Scattered showers and sunny patches through January, settling into consistently finer weather towards March.

April-May-June

The Samui 'Summer' with high temperatures and humidity, clear blue skies, red-hot sand and the long local school holidays!

July-August-September

Things start to cool a little and broken cloud begins to take over, becoming combined with occasional sudden showers as September appears.

October-November-December

Unpredictable with a mixture of sun and broken cloud in October and November but with the probability of heavy, prolonged tropical thunderstorms dominating November. This usually continues into December, but becoming less frequent and with more sunny periods as the new year approaches.
